Why Every Server Picks One Product Type for the Whole Season

Unicorn Rivals Team

A Server Is a Cohort, Not a Mixer

When you tap Join Server, you're not entering a genre-free battle royale.

You're entering a season contract: up to forty founders, one persistent world, one product archetype for everyone — B2B SaaS Web at launch, more types in future seasons (six archetypes roadmap).

That single rule is why Unicorn Rivals can claim "startup simulator" instead of "numbers go up RPG."

What "One Product Type" Means

Everyone on the server shares Nobody gets
Customer physics for that vertical Private infinite TAM
Comparable growth curves A secret category advantage
One meta to learn per season Mid-season pivot to new market

Your company name is unique. Your market rules are not.

Real-world echo: accelerator batches compare founders in the same wave — not a coffee shop next to a defense contractor next to a consumer app in one ranking.

Why We Rejected Mixed Servers

Mixed product lobbies break three design promises:

  1. Leaderboard honestyscore and valuation must compare like builds
  2. Saturation claritymarket fill is shared; mixed types blur who stole whose customers
  3. Replayability — winning SaaS season ≠ winning consumer season; separate servers = separate trophies

Async multiplayer tension only works when players understand why they're behind — not "wrong archetype."

Server Name vs Product Type

Server names (Sand Hill Road, SoMa District) are identity, not mechanics.

Mechanics come from the archetype baked at provision time. Two servers can both be B2B SaaS Web seasons with different human mixes, AI personalities, and drama — but the same customer math.

When we add new archetypes, you'll choose seasons, not toggle categories mid-run.

Picking Your Server

Practical join logic:

You want Look for
Learn the live meta Active B2B SaaS Web server with open slots
Late join comeback Filling server + catch-up systems
Less crowded board Newer server name in the list
Finish the story Avoid legendary archives — unicorn already won

Product type is listed before you commit. No surprise pivots.

One Type, Full Season Arc

A single archetype lets us tune milestones (exit war preview) and Disrupt economy for one pacing curve.

Mixed types would mean mixed milestone triggers — unreadable for players, unmaintainable for balance.

Future: Same Rule, New Flavors

Launch: B2B SaaS Web only.

Later servers rotate archetypes — consumer, marketplace, enterprise — each a fresh 40-player season with the same unicorn finish line.

The rule doesn't change. The physics do.
